Lordosis & Kyphosis

A normal human spine contains natural lordotic curves. These curves work to absorb shock and help distribute weight along the length of the spinal column.

LORDOSIS is a condition of the back where the lumbar or cervical spines are either minimally or significantly pronounced. A person with lordosis exhibits an exaggerated posture. The lower back is arched more, pushing the buttocks out and upwards. This condition is also known as hyper-lordosis. Although considered a pain-free condition, serious lordotic arching has been known to result in health problems and cause pain and limit back movement. Periodic medical observation should be undertaken for people with severe lordotic curvatures.

KYPHOSIS is a progressive spinal disorder that can affect children or adults. The disorder may cause a deformity described as humpback or hunchback. Kyphosis can be in the form of hyperkyphosis or sharp angular gibbus deformity. Frequent causes of Kyphosis are: a postural round-back; Scheuermann's Disease or congential Kyphosis as a few examples.

Whilst surgery and conventional medicines are the most conventional forms of treatment for these types of spinal conditions, remedial massage can play an important role in reducing the ongoing pain and continued discomfort a person suffers with. I can work on the muscle groups surrounding these areas and show you some effective stretches and movements to help ease your pain. Give me a call and tell me what your situation is and lets see if I can help in any way.
