The aftercare that follows a massage treatment is every bit as important as the treatment itself. After your massage you may experience some or none of the reactions highlighted at the bottom of the page, they are beneficial to your body so don't worry they are normal.

It is advisable that you drink a sufficient amount of water. This will help eliminate all the toxins from the body that have been released during the massage and to help stop you becoming dehydrated.

Always try and drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to help your body function healthly. A glass of warm water with a slice of lemon in the morning is also a great way to kick start your day and give you the energy to tackle it. For the following 24-48hours after a massage treatment, only eat a light diet. Nothing heavy for the digestive system like curries or roast dinners, beers etc, instead give yourself salads, omlettes, poached eggs, cous cous, fruit, steamed fish or vegetables etc, food that is lighter on the stomach and easier to digest.

Avoid if you can all processed food (packet, tinned, ready-meals etc), spicy food and stimulants like caffeine (tea, coffee, energy drinks), alcohol and nicotine, as your body needs time and energy to get rid of all the toxins that have been released because of the massage. Eating heavy or processed food within that 24-48 hour period takes away vital energy from that toxicity-flushout your body is currently processing - resulting in an unfinished treatment.

You have just relaxed yourself after having a massage and you don't want to undo all the good work you have done. Instead drink plenty of water, fruit juice or herbal tea. Give your body a chance to take a rest for its usual routine and let it catch up. Giving up smoking will also have no end of benefits on your body.
